Light in the land

The instant the shutter is pressed is always a heart stopping moment.
Light is dynamic, fast changing and elusive; always I ask myself if I have pressed the shutter at the ultimate moment? have I captured the light as I saw it at that particular instant? did I do it justice? was I too hasty - or perhaps too slow?
Light may be free, but one cannot shoot one’s way to good light, even though film and, now, digital data cards are relatively cheap. The composition used to interpret the light has to be thought out in advance and, as the light changes, a carefully worked image may no longer evoke the same emotion and releasing the shutter, no matter how often, will be a wasted effort.
The aim of my photography is to capture the light; together with the landscape I strive to write with light.

“Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” Elliott Erwitt
